If you're considering visiting us in our new studio shop but haven't been to Bovey Tracey for a while...or...ever - we thought we'd give you a quick rundown of ten good reasons to visit our beautiful home town.
Number one is, obviously, our lovely new shop! We opened our first shop in June this year and not only can you buy our products here, but you can also find us working away making lampshades, fulfilling orders and dreaming up new designs.
Next on the list is the very fabulous Devon Guild of Craftsmen, just up the road. Based in a Grade II ex-water mill, it's home to one of the country's leading craft organisations, featuring regularly changing exhibitions.
You might be aware of the amazing events which come to Bovey each year, including the Contemporary Craft Festival every Summer and Nourish Festival each Autumn, plus the ever popular Bovey Tracey Carnival, Green Man Festival, and regular Farmers Markets.
We certainly couldn't make this list without including beautiful Dartmoor. The stunning national park has everything from windswept tors to ancient forests, and is right on our doorstep - only a ten minute drive away from our shop.
If the weather's a little on the wet side of things, we have options for you. Bovey Tracey is now home to the Dartmoor Whisky Distillery - the first single malt whisky distillery in the South West of England. Located in the beautiful old Victorian Town Hall, the passionate team run tours and tasting experiences, plus they have a bar if you need a little refreshment!
We really are spoiled for gourmet goodness in Bovey, as we also have Wildmoor Delicatessen selling local and artisan treats, and we are also thrilled to hear that The Cheese Shed are going to be making their outstanding selection of local cheeses available to the public in their new location in town very soon.
It's not only lovers of food and drink who are well served by our town. It's home to some amazing independent craft businesses - Serendipity Patchwork and Quilting, for all your fabric and notions needs, and Spin a Yarn for knitting and crochet supplies.
Only minutes from the centre of Bovey Tracey is Parke, a National Trust estate featuring stunning riverside walks and a family friendly cycle track along the old railway track. Also in Parke is the very lovely Home Farm Cafe, an award winning cafe and restaurant which prides itself on using mostly locally sourced ingredients, plus it has a dog-friendly room which makes it a perfect location for a mid-walk pitstop.
If you did bring your bikes with you, Cafe 3 Sixty is a cycle-friendly cafe just a stone's throw from our shop. WIth a dedicated indoors area for parking your bike or kids scooters and an onsite cycle workshop, it's the perfect option if you've been enjoying one of the many local cycle routes.
Last but by no means least, did you know that Bovey Tracey has it's own open air (heated!) swimming pool? Open from April until early September every year, it recently celebrated 50 years of providing a fantastic place for people to exercise and relax.
Phew...! We hope you can see that there's a huge amount going on locally - we haven't even been able to include everything there is to do. It's such a pleasure to add our business to this thriving town.
Do let us know if you're planning a visit and want any more information - we'll do our best to help you out!
